Take heed: Broad daylight hold up, an American senior victim
"Meanwhile, on Sunday afternoon about 1:30, the woman was walking down Temesquitate, just where it turns and the steps begin, when a young punk ran up, stuck a piece in her face and took her wallet. He then ran off.

Luckily, he only got 50 pesos, but he did get all her cards and ID, so that's going to be a colossal pain.

We got video from several street cameras in the 'hood, but nothing with a good facial shot on it.

When we went to the cops, they offered her a choice of a.) Immediately accepting an acknowledgement from the cops that she had reported the crime, which would then enable her to take a copy of that to relevant entities in order to (relatively) quickly get new cards, ID, etc. However, no investigation of the crime would then result and nothing further would be done.
b.) Initiate an investigation, which would then hold up the issuance of any document acknowledging that she had reported the crime until some time later, if ever, in the process; one which of course no one was willing to speculate about how long that might be.

Given the fact that no one was physically harmed and the amount involved was 50 piddling pesos, you can imagine just how much time the cops were going to devote to any "investigation," so she opted for getting the necessary document right away, and so that's that."

RE: Take heed: Broad daylight hold up, an American senior victim
I find this kind of post borderline irresponsible. Who is the supposed victim here? I'm not asking for her name, but it would be helpful in assessing this report to know a little about her, other than that she is "an American senior." Is she a tourist? An occasional visitor? An expat? If the latter, how long has she lived here? Also, what does "all her cards" mean? Credit cards? Not to blame the victim, but why carry more than one in this town?

I also wonder who wrote this post. Since it's entirely enclosed in quotation marks, I assume it wasn't you, Doyle. It's unclear from the text whether the author witnessed the holdup, or whether anyone else did.

Finally, this makes no sense at all, at least to me: "Given the fact that no one was physically harmed and the amount involved was 50 piddling pesos . . . , she opted for getting the necessary document right away, and so that's that." In other words, she chose not to insist on an investigation!

A freaking gun was stuck in her face, but never mind?!? Instead of insisting that the cops do their job, the victim and her friend just tell Doyle so he can report it on Gtolist?!? What exactly is the point here, other than to instill fear in the credulous?!?

I hope other crime victims here will do their duty as citizens, residents, or responsible visitors, even when it's inconvenient.

Don, you missed it editor that you are. "an American senior." Is she a tourist? An occasional visitor? An expat?" The person at the center of this is before anything else is a 'victim' first as one can plainly see in the poorly phrased title of the post, "Take heed: Broad daylight hold up, an American senior victim".Not just anyone was stuck-up. A 'victim' was. A bettter title could have been American senior was the victim of a stick-up!. Maybe the victim here, other than the language, was something like a crisis actor?
