RE: The time of year for noise
Well i think her point is that this extremely loud noise thing is part of Mexican culture and me being an expat have no right to mess with it. But, there are a couple of assumptions made to support her point, that aren't valid. I'm not really talking about Mariachi or traditional banda I'm talking about gut rumbling amplified bass and amplified vocals that can be heard a mile away. I am surrounded by middle aged Mexicans with children and elderly Mexicans living in passed down houses and they can't stand this noise. They certainly don't value it as Mexican culture.... Should they be moving too ? It seems like that is what you are saying which kind of comes off as you not really caring about people that are lower down on the power grid and can't defend themselves. It's kind of like saying graffiti is a Mexican thing so just go with the flow as they scroll all over historic buildings and if you don't like it leave.
My friend Antonio used to own an Italian restaurant. Unfortunately a bar moved in next door. The bar was so loud that customers started staying away. When Antonio complained he was threatened and in no uncertain terms if he complained again he might not be around to complain a third time. This might be Mexican culture but unfortunately for me Antonio has moved his restaurant to Leon. I don't see that as a happy ending. There is nothing culturally correct about it, and it is for people like Antonio, my Mexico neighbors, my Mexican wife and my self that I will continue to fight for what is right and not take flight... win or lose. |
