Lousy internet for past week or so
Is it just me or is it more widespread? For more than a week Telmex Infinitum has been dropping signal in and out constantly - can't wait until MegaCable begins service in a month or so.

It's even worse with cellular data service - Telcel, Movistar, iUSACell, Nextel. During Cervantino the cellular data network is simply overloaded with people uploading pictures and videos to Facebook, YouTube, etc., while listening to Spotify or whatever.

Sr. bill, what is mega cable internet service area? We have used their service in sonora and it was super fast and far more stable than infinitum. Cost about equal.

RE: Lousy internet for past week or so
I have had a speed test ready to go for over a week. I wonder if it's right that Cervantino has something to do with it. Hope so. I'd get a signal that the connection had timed out and go run speed test and it was 4.8-5.14 so shouldn't have been a problem. You think that maybe it actually had stopped for that short time before I ran the test? Well, we'll see. At one point about 2 weeks ago it went out completely some time in the afternoon. I called Telmex and waited 40 min for an English speaker. She wasn't good at English nor was she good at figuring out the problem. Her solution was that I should unplug the router and plug it in at another electrical outlet. Yeah, maybe the electricity is different and more compatible w/ internet a few feet away. I got a new router even tho the internet came back the next morning, magically. I'd like to hear more about the other company. I was bitching yesterday about some guys putting up cables, but maybe it was them. So tell me more about MegaCable. Thanks

I've been getting 5 Mb/sec consistently since they completed the construction on Sangre de Cristo. Since I'm only paying for 3 Mb/sec, I can't complain. I ran speedtest.net in the middle of last week, and again just a couple of minutes ago, and got 5 Mb/sec both times.

I don't think speed is the issue - it seems fine when connected. Being and staying connected is the problem.

Oddly my Internet will be down but my VOIP phone still has a connection to my US line.

I'll follow up on what I know about MegaCable in next message.

RE: Lousy internet for past week or so
I have never had great Internet anywhere in Mexico especially streaming.
Often decent during the day & late night it is "iffy" during evening hours as many are on line.
Last trip to Guanajuato it would take about an hour to watch a half hour show such as The Daily Show as it would freeze and/or stutter.
TG for cheap DVD's in GTO!!!! With the peso in the toilet they should be about 70 cents US now. LOL

RE: Lousy internet for past week or so
Re MEGACABLE in GTO. In late August a press release announced the service. All new infrastructure in a greenfield market [GTO].

On three occasions I contacted MegaCable's customer service who in typical fashion had no idea and simply claimed GTO wasn't in their service aea - even after I had pointed out they had Help Wanted classifieds running for sales people in GTO. Next I contacted Emerson Sampio, CTO of MegaCable [the press release incorrectly lists him as CEO] and his reply:
Greetings Mr. Byrnes,
This is the status our service availability in Guanajuato where we will launch a FTTH (Fiber to the Home) GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network) technology.
Location 1) Yes the service will be available in this location
Location 2) Unfortunately we do not have concession to operate in this location. Nevertheless, we are working to get regulatory permission.
Location 3) Yes, the service will be available in this location,

The estimate date for our service activation will be middle of November for Internet and Voice services and end of December for Video service.

I hope I was of any any help and thank you your inquiry.
Kind Regards,

Emerson Sampaio

In the press release they say they will offer service to around 30,000 homes so if, on average, there are 5 people per household that covers most of GTO.

Their base service is 10Mbps and goes up to 200Mpbs!
Pricing - choose "One Service" then scroll down to the Internet section.

RE: Lousy internet for past week or so
Any idea how one can get this new internet connection in their homes? Is there an office? A phone number?

Also, we live on a callejon. ANy thoughts as to availability of this service for a callejon?

Thanks.

RE: Lousy internet for past week or so
I think it is just a matter of wait until they are ready to launch and they will make the process known - watch for bus adverts/billboards/adverts in A.M.etc
