In addition to the very center of town, The Embajadora, Pastita, and close-in Paseo de la Presa neighborhoods are level or nearly so. Of the three, Paseo de la Presa, pretty in the daytime, is probably the least safe after dark, though. The list of level neighborhoods is longer if you would consider using the bus routinely.
By goiing to www.semanariochopper.com, you can read current online classifieds to get a sense of present rentals. By the end of your five months you'll likely find other cities with more housing on the level. That said, Guanajuato offers a way of life and opportunities for friendship that many of us like.
