Guanajuato 1908
One hundred three years ago, Mrs. Peter M. Myers, of Bedford, Ohio, visited Guanajuato, and presently recounted her travels in a pamphlet entitled "A City of Dreams." She writes about the great flood of 1905; about the "peons" in the mines, who earned "six cents a day, when they were paid anything"; about the deadly Fiestas of San Juan (in Valenciana!); and much more. All in all, she was charmed by Guanajuato, "the most dreamily picturesque city on all the North American continent"--though she was troubled, like many of us today, by "threatening signs of commercialism."

I stumbled across Mrs. Myers's pamphlet here. She writes very well, and the pamphlet includes a few photographs. If you're interested in the history of Guanajuato, it's worth your time.

Hola Don,
Do you have, or know where one could see, a copy of
Mrs. Myers pamphlet? I am an avid amateur historian and now being a newbie in GTO want to learn and enjoy how this place has come to be the treasured " City of Dreams" we all love. Thanks for posting.

Mr Bill.
We both should be very glad you are presently far away, as I want to give you a big old kiss for posting that site with the great collection of historic photos of GTO and all of Mexcio. Of course Susan would likely punch you, as I am bound to now spend hours and hours looking in detail at these wonderful and informative pictures. Muchismo gracias amigo.
They are all wonderful but the early XX century shots of La Presa de Olla are especially good. The variety of hats alone is priceless.
