RE: Covid 19 situation now?
@wmeleney: There is basically zero testing here until a person becomes very sick. Even then, there is often still no testing, so a subsequent death cannot be definitively attributed to Covid or to some other cause. Without testing, it's impossible to know transmission rates. As for contact tracing, it's all but unheard of here. So all we're left with are the reported numbers of confirmed cases (which even the federal government says are wildly underreported) and the slightly more solid number of deaths.
A subscription to Mexico News Daily costs just $2.99 a month and can be canceled at any time. While far from perfect, it's an important omnibus source for news here. Many of its articles (including the one I mentioned above) provide links to Spanish-language sources, which can be helpful as well. Don |

RE: Covid 19 situation now?
I consider the death numbers a lot more informative than the infection ones. Infections, as we've been hearing, can be easily undercounted, but it's much more difficult to undercount corpses.
The cumulative corpse count for today for Guanajuato Capital is 47. |

RE: Covid 19 situation now?
Again, thanks. I’m staying current with these posts and just talked to a friend in Ajiic who said about the same things about conditions there. Of course Ajiic is MUCH smaller than GTO, he lives in a gated community, and is only an hour outside of Guadalajara.
I saw some of your museums are re-opening; I wonder how you all feel about that. |

Museums opening - more power to them but you won't catch me there just yet.

RE: Covid 19 situation now?
In April, May, June, hospitals, counties and the state of WA were apparently reporting anyone who died and had symptoms of possible Covid, pneumonia, respiratory distress and heart attack, e.g., were reported as Covid deaths. At that time, testing was minimal or inaccurate and post-mortems were not necessarily conducted. Most of the early deaths, like 70%, were happening in nursing homes. Now, the reported daily deaths in GTO are 4 times higher than those reported for the entire state of WA. Do you think the daily numbers are valid, actually caused by Covid?
