RE: English library
Doyle,
I haven't been there myself, but a few months ago I copied the following directions from somewhere: "The English Library is open to all, no library cards, no card catalog. Come and take home what you want, return and donate books whenever the spirit moves you. The Library occupies a room in the Guanajuato library, which is part of the Casa de la Cultura in Encino (along the street from Comercial Mexicana to the Plaza de Toros, starting out as Tepetapa but assuming a variety of different names along the way). Hours 9-4 Mon-Fri. A sign indicates that a 3-peso admissions fee is required, but just say you're going to the Biblioteca and the welcome will be warm. Directions: Take any Marfil bus in front of the Del Sol department store, across (more or less) from Mercado Hidalgo. The bus stops directly in front of the Encino center at the basketball court which is part of it. (A few stops past the Momias Museum)." Don |

RE: English library
Note that it's only open on weekdays. It might not open until 10. The specific building is hard to find but the person at the entrance window can help you. Include a message with the books saying they're new to the library so that they'll get stamped as library property. It will be great to have some new books.
By bus: look for one that says Pueblito de Rocha. Ask the driver to make sure it goes at the Centro Recreativo Encino. By car: up Tepetapa as Don says and just keep going straight over the hill and then down to the lowest point. You'll see the basketball court on the right. |
