Pointers to recognize tampered "skimming" ATM machines

I thought this was interesting. When I refuse to use any ATM machine other than one in a bank, often my friends call me paranoid, but turns out I have reason to be suspicious ...

Well, it's not just physical machines. A couple of years ago, my American Express card was used for two attempted purchases at WalMart (online?). AMEX notified me and had a new card expedited to me before I was even aware of it. On the date of the supposed charges, I was passing through an airport LAX, so it could have been skimmed without my even using it! Just last week, my CapitalOne card was used for an attempted purchase at Apple, and also for a telecomm purchase in Paris. Again, the company cancelled the card immediately, and is sending me a new card. This morning, I noticed that another telecomm charge from Paris appeared AFTER the old card was supposedly cancelled. I just hope that that was not on my new card which I don't even have in my hands! What a hassle -- I'll be returning to Mexico in less than a week, for about 10 months, and need that card to use there.

Never a victim of Skimming I had my ATM card "compromised 3 times with in a year.
Once while in GTO, once while at my Trinity Alps camper & the Target "Fiasco" .
In each instance Chase immediately reversed the charges restore all to my account without any documentation. writing letters or any other action on my part.
While I do not normally recommend huge banks (or any other giant corps) I must admit Chase made this easy & painless.
