Want to rent basic room in the centro histórico

I'll be in Guanajuato for a month or so, starting January 11. I have a place to stay the first week, but after that I'm looking for lodging in the Centro histórico.

The hostels in the area all seem expensive, so I'm hoping to find something basic to rent. I've been staying with Mexicans in their homes, so I'm perfectly happy with non-tourist-oriented places. My only requirements are that the room comes with a bed, hot water in the shower (shared bathroom is ok), and internet. A shared kitchen would be very nice, but not a hard requirement.

I've seen postings on sites like Trovit for rooms in the $1-2000 MXN range, but I'm not sure those were actually in the centro histórico, which might well cost more even for a basic room.

Any tips, leads, or offers are much appreciated!

I'm sure a lot are students but not always, quite often whole houses.
Another option could be airbnb as I assume that you need fully furnished and they are generally a bit more but you can always privately message them to see if you can get a deal.
Lastly I would check maybe with Escuela Falcon or one of the other language schools as they know people around the area and organise home stays.

Thanks, Lisa. I've already looked at all those resources, though. I guess I'll just have to keep an eye on them and see if anything pops up that matches what I'm looking for.
