For us to spend a year in Ecuador requires certified copies of each of the following> birth, marriage, divorce, FBI "good conduct" check, and government pension EACH then sent to the Washington DC Secretary of State for an apostille, then translated into Ecuadorian Spanish by their approved translators. The fees for all of this are much worse than Sonia Diaz and the govt. in Mexico.
