I am a recent arrival to GTO and have seen some discussions on this forum about baseball and the local field. Does anyone know if teams play this time of year or the schedule of upcoming games?

Are these amateur teams or semi-pro?

We're getting some baseball action next month. The Mexican League champions, Los Tigres de Quintana Roo, are playing an exhibition here against Los Saraperos de Saltillo March 16. ("Sarape Makers"; there's a nickname that drives fear into the hearts of their opponents. :-) )

Most of the games last year were two divisions of the Municipal League, Primera Fuerza and Categoria Especial. The players in Primera Fuerza seem to be older, and there's a few of them that have had some pro experience in the Mexican League. I doubt that any of these guys get paid much more than beer money. The Primera Fuerza season starts tomorrow (Thursday, May 29). Thursday's game is Morena vs. Gigantes. Friday is San Diego vs. San Jeronimo, and Saturday is Peter's Pizza vs. Cubo.

I got this info off the blackboard in front of the Belén Church. No times were listed. The Saturday game is at 3:30 PM, and it's a good guess that the other two games are at the same time.

One piece of baseball news is, Guadalajara is getting a team in the Pacific League, Los Charros de Jalisco. The Pacific League season is during the Winter, and it's generally regarded as the better of Mexico's two pro leagues.

The Charros and Los Venados de Mazatlan are going to play a pre-season exhibition game at Aguilar y Maya on Saturday, Sept. 27, at 3 PM. I've provided the poster below.
