New baseball team - Tuzos de Guanajuato

Mexico has a new baseball league, the Liga Invernal Mexicana (Mexican Winter League). And, GTO has a team in it, the Tuzos de Guanajuato. (I think a tuzo is a gopher.) They play their home games at Parque José Aguilar y Maya. There's a game on Oct. 29 vs. the Diablos of Mexico City (5 PM?) and home games against the Petroleros de Salamanca Oct. 30-31 and Nov. 1.

Any idea how long the season lasts?

The last regular season home game is Dec. 26. The playoffs could last until Jan. 20. To see the schedule, go to http://anotadores.com/ , and select "calendario" from the menu. And if you scroll down far enough, you'll see the game times. For Los Tuzos, it's 5 PM Monday-Saturday, and noon Sunday. Unless it's a double-header; all doubleheaders start at noon.

I went to a game Tuesday, vs. Celaya, watched a few innings, drank a couple of beer. There's another game against Celaya on Thursday, and games against Mexico City Friday (Nov. 13), Saturday, and Sunday.

I've learned that the Tuzos are the junior varsity (or "B" team, or whatever you want to call it) of the Leones de Yucatán (Mérida). So, if you see the Leones team bus around town, that's the reason why. The Tozos' current leading hitter is Kristian Delgado. He played part of this year's regular season for the Leones, batted .206. Carlos Pech currently has the lowest ERA for the Tuzos (1.46) but didn't see action for the Leones this season. I presume that the reason the Tuzos are playing here instead of Mérida is to cut down travel expenses.

The last regular season home games are this Sunday, vs. the Petroleros de Salamanca. The Tuzos will not make the playoffs, so that's it for this season. It's a double-header, and starts at noon.

I have no idea whether there will be a "next year". The crowds have been small, but I don't know whether the owners are happy or not.
