driving to houston?
does anyone have experience coming out of mex and going up to houston area? the question involves the option of going all interstate once NoB ie up to san antonio via 35 and then east on 10 versus taking tex 59 (bentsen highway) northeast and hit 10 closer to metro houston? the 59 option is about a 100 miles shorter on mapquest- but road conditons ???
thanks for any advice |

RE: driving to houston?
Jesse,
It's been ten years or more since I last took the 59 route. At that time, though shorter than the 10-35 option, it took a little longer because one had to slow down for small towns and stoplights. On the plus side, 59 is arguably more scenic, though neither route is much to write home about aesthetically. Things may have changed in the last ten years, of course, and YMMV. Don |

RE: driving to houston?
We make the drive from Austin to GTO pretty regularly. We cross at Columbia to avoid traffic in Laredo. From Monterrey to SA is not very scenic, but the roads are good for the entire trip. About $50 in tolls I think. You need a TX Tag to use the toll road on the US side from Columbia to IH35, although they may send a bill if you don't have one.
