I've lost it: temporary u.s. auto insurance
You can be a u.s. citizen with an fm3 or fm2 keeping your u.s. plated vehicle in Mexico. There is a company that will insure the vehicle short term (daily) while you drive in the u.s.
Do you have the name of the company? thanks. |

RE: I've lost it: temporary u.s. auto insurance
Doyle, I don't think that is correct - you can buy short term policies for US cars operating in Mexico and short term policies for Mexican cars operating in the US. In the US you should be following the regulations for the state your vehicle is titled and plated in.
I use RISDirect which is licensed broker in many states. Usually the shortest policy is 3 months. You can write the owner, Orlando Frasca -The Insurance Guy, directly and explain your situation and get his opinion. ofrasca@risdirect.com FOUND THIS on www.chapala.com If you have a Mexican-plated car, or if you are not resident in the US or Canada, and are driving a US or Canadian plated car, you can buy insurance on-line from segurogringo.com. The insurer is a Texas insurance company, licensed with the State of Texas. You can buy for the number of days you need, from 1 to 365. We have bought insurance many times, and the policy satisfied the state police that we were insured. We've never had a claim, so I can't speak to that area of their service, but I did check the Texas State Government Insurance Department website and the insurance company has an acceptable rating. |

RE: I've lost it: temporary u.s. auto insurance
HI Doyle
We're going to McAllen on Sunday with our FM2s (final months) and our MX plated Ford Explorer. I just bought 5 days insurance for $28US from Seguros Lloyd in Guadalajara. When we lived in the US we bought a full year of MX insurance from them. It was cheaper than other policies. Then when it still had WI plates we bought the cheap policy for a few days across the border to the US when we were living here. Now with MX plates they are still offering the same thing. Baratisimo. Of course, whatever type of plates you have, they have to be current. Colleen |
