Funny Money
Someone handed this off to me somewhere along the line
[Image: BP200.jpg]
Not knowing that it was counterfeit [nor double layered] I handed it to a cashier at the Mega. I noticed that she was rubbing it in a corner but paid little attention. There was a long delay for "change". A supervisor then appeared and showed me the separating note.
I was quite surprised. She wanted it back. I saw the ink pad and large stamp she was about to hit it with. I refused. She said it was Mega's policy to stamp bad notes. I said it was my policy not to. It took several "No's" before she gave up and let me go. I said I would take it to the bank.

What would you do if you discovered you had Funny Money like this?

The 'weight' of the paper which seems quite durable is considerably less than that of a real 200 note.

Oooh I dare not say. We are at a disadvantage not knowing how the bills should feel. Once in Cuba, 2000, we were being given counterfeit $5 US bills. We passed them off again ASAP. At that time the US dollar was official currency for foreigners.

I had heard that there were counterfeit bills here in Gto. Do you think there are other denominations that have been counterfeited? What is it the clerks at Mega are looking for when they hold the bills up and turn them over and look and look? If there is some info that could help all of us, it would be appreciated.

Sorry you had that experience. Amazing that you got it back. Same thing happens in the US to keep the bills from circulating. Last sucker takes the loss. Not meant in any way disrespectfully, Bill. Thanks for the tip.

Colleen, Not sure what they are looking for in particular but they must go through some training. This bill was designed to look like one that had been folded and refolded into someone's wallet. At the moment I don't have another 200 of the same design to compare it with.

A few years ago a guest paid me with several 1000's. I paid my electric bill in the autoteller with one of them. A few days after a gentleman from the CFE came to my door and asked me to come to the office to meet with the manager. I was asked to fill out a couple forms. They gave me a receipt for the note and also wanted another, good, 1000 to pay my bill. I asked how they knew it was me? Turns out I was the only person who paid with a 1000 that day.

EEEEK!

Well, if you hold the note up to the light, a shadow image of the same portrait appears on the genuine bill, beside the portrait. No, I don't do this everytime I get change, but maybe I should!
