Guanajuato property taxes

Could someone please tell me when/where we can pay our property taxes and when discounts apply. Thanks. Steve

The predial (property tax) is paid at the Presidencia Municipal downtown. The entrance is roughly opposite the plazuela at the end of Calle Truco.

You get a discount if you pay your predial for the entire year, rather than in bimonthly installments. If you pay the whole thing in January, the discount is 15 percent. In February, it's 10 percent.

You can pay anytime after the first of the year, I believe. In my experience the lines are very long for the first couple of weeks. I've found it most convenient to pay in the second half of January.

It is called a discount if you pay in January or February but the price you pay later in the year could be called a penalty rate. Either way - pay early. For several years there has been a kiosk set up in front of the Comercial Mexicana and I've never been in a line of more than 20. Just a guess but you can probably also pay at the government office in the mall. BTW the tenencia for your GTO reg car is due in January as well. For those offering furnished rental accomodations [short or long term] they should also be making monthly payments of ISR/IETU/IVA and a 2% state tax with an annual reconciliation of all four in April. [last year I had to stand in line to pay a one peso adjustment!] Don't DIY pay an accountant to figure it out for you. The first three taxes can be paid on line from your local bank account. The state tax has to be paid inside a bank.

High Don and Bill. I see that on your postings you are subtitled Vice Moderator. How do i get to be one of those? How much does it cost? Is there a list of the vices or do you get to moderate all of them?

The tenencia has supposedly been canceled, at least for most of us who own Mexican-plated cars. According to this article, it will no longer apply to new vehicles valued at less than 250,000 pesos, or to used vehicles valued at less than 175,000 pesos. Vehicle owners will still have to pay the refrendo, but in 2011 it will be a mere 343 pesos, according to the article. In 2010, one could pay the tenencia at any bank--all one needed was the cash and one's license number--and I expect the same will hold for the refrendo in 2011.
