Modelo Amber - somebody shoot me
I think we've talked about beers here before so I hope it's not intruding too much on the purpose of this forum. My purpose is only wanting to warn everyone if you might try a blind taste test of this new beer compared to something, it would be hard to separate the new Modelo Amber flavor by "Grupo Modelo" (aka Corona Inc) from the rancid "Indio" by the competing Cuauhtémoc Moctezuma group.

Wow is all I can say. I always ceremoniously approach either a Modelo Claro or Modelo Negra with a bit of reverence and most of the time a frosted glass to boot. I was confident enough in their reputation to buy an entire 6-pack but of the new Amber when I again made a ceremony out of trying this new offering after being tempted from a chance encounter in the "cold shelf" just after the big beer Covid shutdown, but I was gravely disappointed. I went to the trouble to sit down with my cold glass at the table to fully enjoy it but I almost gagged. Yuck! It took me only a minute to recognize the flavor - Indio!

I remember about 15 years ago taking a tour in Monterrey of the Cuauhtémoc Moctezuma brewery and corporate headquarters when the last part of the tour was provided as their beer garden where visitors had the option of drinking up to 3 free glasses of the various beers they sold (about 10-12 brands I think). On tap they had three taps but the choice that day was was Indio, Indio and Indio and try as I may while all caught up in the spirit of the moment, it was all I could do to get one of those Indios down. (Imagine a tour of the Miller Genuine Draft plant.)

So the short story here is don't buy this beer thinking you are in for a super treat but instead imagine you're simply duping a visit to Oxxo for an Indio.

And not to show that I'm unfair, I have to give a thumbs up to one of my favorite inexpensive beers that is amazingly light and flavorful and once served as one of my favorite all-day beach beers, another product of Grupo Modelo .... Cerveza Montejo Claro

Thanks for that recommendation (for the Montejo); I've never tried it. I'll have to pick some up and give it a swirl.

Consumed an Allende Oscura last week, thought it was pretty good.
