Telmex fiber optic
After a couple of months of messy sidewalk and street trenching Telmex has finished the installation of their new underground fiber network up Paseo de la Presa. It hit our home last week and the results so far are noteworthy. Our previous copper connection was generally reliable with download speeds consistently between 12-18 mbs. The new fiber hits between 40-80 depending on time of use. We will monitor reliability going forward, but as of now we are appreciative for the progress and investment.

RE: Telmex fiber optic
I think we were the very first to obtain Telmex fiber optic service a couple of years ago. Last year we upgraded to their 200MB/sec service for 1500 pesos/month. The service has been far more reliable than previous DSL service, especially during the rainy season. Using https:/testmy.net (more accurate than speedtest.net) I seem to average about 175 MB/sec downloads / 35MB/sec uploads.

Not being smart or critical, but curious how you use all that bandwidth. I do photo and video work, uploading every few days and make in on 5M. Streaming and VOIP also works with that on Telmex fiber. Of course the speed that downloads require would be a large need and the more files or movies you may download, the faster the speed that would benefit you, so I can see that. Still just a passing comment. It's strange to be in a county I suppose where 200M is only $75 a month. In my previous US home, 10M was $80, so what a bargain it is.

RE: Telmex fiber optic
Actually we don’t. We functioned fine on the prior DSL feed, BUT two weeks in the reliability factor is proving far better, having seen no dips or drops. Plus,it has come at same price as before.
Who could complain?
