Official translator

Anybody know of a certified, official documents translator here in GTO? Need to have my birth certificated translated for SRE. Thanks!

Years ago, prior to our getting married, the Registro Civil sent me to the only translator they officially recognized. His name was Doug Goodwin, and he worked at the language school at the UG. I don't know whether he's still there. You might ask the Registro Civil who their official translator is these days. And do you also need an apostille for your birth certificate? I did.

Thanks, Don. I had thought about going to Recursos Humanos to ask, but thought I´d fish around and see if somebody had actually hired someone for this sort of thing. Glad to hear you did! The info I have is a bit nebulous on that requirement- says either officially translated OR apostilled. I figured it would be faster and less costly to go with the official translation, and with the hope that having a a U.S. notary seal that it's a certified copy will let it squeak by. Never got asked for this in all the years of FM3s and FM2s, nor even my permanencia, so...fingers crossed. I'll ask around the language school to see if he's still there, or there's somebody else who works in an official capacity. Plan B: Registro Civil. Again, thanks!

Doug Goodwin moved back to the U.S. a few years ago. You could ask at the Centro de Idiomas if they have an official translator there now.
