"Perito Traductor" - Official Translator
INM, both in Le?n and SMA are making our lives harder and harder to be able to stay in Mexico. Fortunately I have dual citizenship, but those who are just trying to establish permanent residence now, are encountering more and more road blocks along the maze of new and more strict requirements.

I am looking for a "Perito Traductor" (a translator/interpreter) certified by the Mexican Department of Justice to translate and certify documents to be presented to INM. I have been translating and certifying documents since my arrival in 2005. In spite of my experience and proven record, they will no longer accept my signature as proof of a true and legitimate translation.

If you are, or know of anyone who is currently certified, please contact me directly. Thanks,

Hi Martha, There is always Douglas at Centro de Idiomas at UGTO.

And at the twins school I met a young man the other day who works as a Sp/Eng/Sp translator - he may be able to help you - it will take me a day or two to find him.

re Perito Traductor - it may have to be by official appointment to have the title i.e. like a notario. Even though your Sp is fluent if you don't have the appointment then...

Hi Bill,

I have to have a "Certified Perito" (like a Notario). I?ve done this for seven years here and many years at the US Courts before retiring, but INM does not believe I am qualified... Have you seen their translated material??? I wonder if they hire "Peritos" themselves. I doubt it... Lol. Thanks for checking.

Hi Martha,

Doug Goodwin is a certified "perito," but his office is no longer at the Language Department -- I think he's in the main building downtown or out at DCEA. His e-mail address is: goodwin@ugto.mx

What exactly is it you have to have translated?

I am heading to SMA next week to finalize my permanente, just wondering what kind of surprises I should prepare for.
