.On 15 July I entered Mexico as a tourist (180 days) and at the same time
I got my vehicle importation permit.

Bad on me: I assumed that 180 days later both the tourist permit and the
vehicle permit would expire on the same day.

Imagine my surprise! The vehicle permit expired 5 days BEFORE the tourist
permit. Goodbye to the $300.00 security deposit.

if you have a vehicle permit check the FECHA VENCIMENTO date to
