RE: Authoritative guess about the gas problem?
Well, I have been hanging out with Mexicans so I know some more about it. If I were only living up here on the Panoramica I probably wouldn't even notice there are almost no cars. So Sunday was the beginning of a new life here in MX. You probably know that there have been many robberies of gasoline from the underground pipeline. Pena Nieto didn't care and he also was fine with letting US companies in to compete with Petroleos Mexicanos. AMLO is not having any of that. The pipeline is shut down as of last Sunday. The gas will have to be delivered in trucks or on trains. How long that will take, quien sabe. I talked with the taxista friend a few minutes ago and he says it's pretty much like yesterday and he thinks maybe 3 more days. Don't know what he bases that on. He had his brother sit in his taxi from 1-8AM yesterday, early Tuesday, waiting for gas. There were long lines everywhere that we passed yesterday and hardly any traffic. Then when my vet came over last evening to give the dogs their shots he was driving a 1964 VW beetle rather than his truck. Smart guy. He had waited also and tried to fill the car and some other containers. He was told he couldn't do that. The gasolinera was rationing and only allowing a certain amount to be spent by each driver.
On Monday I ordered a taxi to come to my house at 6:10. At 6:20 I called and he said he was stuck in traffic in Centro. I asked how long and he said maybe 20 min. I called again, no answer. He called 55 min later and by then my meeting would have been over. I don't understand why on Monday Centro was so filled with traffic. There are no gas stations there or near there. Nobody has answers on that. I also don't know if there are refineries in MX. I hope so. I always thought it was crazy to drill the oil here, send it to the US to be refined and then sent back down here. If Trump knew about the problem in so many states here, he'd be able to have MX pay for the wall, after all. So all prices are going to rise along with the dollar falling in value, daily. The taxista says the basic short ride like from here to Centro will be 80 not 50. Of course the people selling fruit and veggies will have to pay more for delivery. And nothing is going to go down once it has gone up. I'm not blaming AMLO for this. It needed doing. If anyone has more info, please share. |

GUANAJUATO Between today and next Thursday Pemex will send 41 thousand barrels of gasoline to Guanajuato to regulate the supply of fuel. Through his Twitter account, the governor Diego Sinhue Rodríguez Vallejo and the director of Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex), Octavio Romero Oropeza , announced the measure to address the problem of shortages that occurs in different parts of the entity. Very worried about the situation of the fuel in the state we reached an agreement, as of today 11 thousand barrels of gasoline are on the way for the state; tomorrow they go 10 thousand more barrels, after tomorrow 10 thousand barrels more for pipe, and 10 thousand more for ferrotanque ", detailed Romero Oropeza. The director of Pemex said that the company has enough fuel for more than 10 days in the country, but there have been problems in its distribution . For his part, the state governor reiterated that this is not a shortage, and pointed out that work is being done to enable the pipeline from Salamanca to León. There is fuel, it is the transfer with the ferrotanks, that is to say, through the railways plus the pipes we hope to start regularizing. He also tells us that work is being done to open the Salamanca-León pipeline, "he said. He indicated that priority is being given to the distribution of emergency and police units. In the meeting where they agreed to send 41 thousand barrels to Guanajuato, Javier González del Villar, Logistics Director and Miguel Breceda, General Director of Industrial Transformation of Pemex, also participated. |

RE: Authoritative guess about the gas problem?

After the shortage of gasoline and diesel registered in at least six states, Pemex reported that the shortage is due to changes in delivery logistics to prevent fuel theft. Through a statement, Pemex explained that the new forms of distribution are part of the Joint Plan of the Government of the Republic to combat the theft of hydrocarbons, which has privileged the use of safer means of transport. It also ensures that lack of fuel does not mean there is a shortage of product or price speculation; because there is enough inventory to cover the demand of the population. "Pemex is doing its best to increase its distribution in the affected states by up to 20% more, all by means of auto tanks and tank cars," they add. Finally, they exhort the affected population not to make extraordinary purchases of gasoline, since the supply will be normalized as soon as possible. "With these measures, the company seeks to avoid economic losses due to the so-called" huachicoleo "or hydrocarbon theft." This positioning comes after at least six states in the country have been short of gasoline for weeks. In the state of Guanajuato, hundreds of motorists have been affected by the lack of fuel, mainly in the cities of León, Celaya and some municipalities in the north of the state. According to the Free Trade Zone, the shortage of fuel, which began in the last days of December, has caused confusion among motorists who wait for hours trained in the few gas stations that have fuel, to load 10 or 15 liters, because It is the only thing that is sent to each vehicle. Workers at gas stations that do not have fuel argue that the shortage is due to delays in the distribution of the same nationwide. The shortage in Guanajuato is mainly gasoline Magna, although this Saturday also begins to be scarce Premium. Another of the states that report lack of fuel is Puebla, among the most affected municipalities are Tecamachalco and Tepeaca. The organization Gasolineros Unidos of the States of Puebla and Tlaxcala (GUEPT), assures that several gas stations have not been stocked for at least three days, fact that they attribute to that the pipes prefer to avoid certain routes before the constant theft of fuel. Puebla is one of the states most affected by the theft of fuel, also known as huachicoleo. This Friday, the GUEPT sent a letter to the Secretary of Energy in which he asked to address the problem. In Michoacán the lack of gasoline began on December 26 in the city of Morelia and although it was announced that the service would be regularized on Wednesday, other municipalities report shortages. According to the Quadratín portal until Friday afternoon, in addition to Morelia, shortages were reported in Uruapan, San Juan and Nuevo Parangaricutiro. In the case of Uruapan some gas stations only have premium gasoline, and diesel, while in San Juan and Nuevo Parangaricutiro there is no fuel. In Hidalgo, the shortage is lived in the city of Pachuca, where since last Thursday several gas stations are waiting to be stocked. The shortage in Pachuca has affected mainly the petrol stations of Pemex and the G500 brand. In Jalisco the supply of Magna, Premium and Diesel gasoline was suspended in at least 500 gas stations in Guadalajara, since a week ago. The Union of Gasolineros of Jalisco, Colima and Nayarit, AC argues that they were told that the problem would be solved from last Monday, but until Friday the stockade continued. In the State of Mexico, several municipalities are reported in the same situation. The capital Toluca, is one of the most affected, in addition to Valle de Bravo, Tianguistengo, Tenango, Tenancingo and San Mateo Atenco. Other states such as Morelos and Queretaron have also reported shortages. In his morning conference on Friday, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said he was aware of this situation and asked for patience from the affected entities, he assured that his administration is working to regularize the service as soon as possible. PRI requires Pemex solution to shortage Through a statement, the parliamentary group of the PRI expressed its dissatisfaction with the lack of fuel and demanded that Pemex provide a prompt solution to the problem. The PRI bloc regrets that citizens are limited to purchasing only 10 liters per car even in some gas stations that do have fuel. "The PRI legislators demand that Pemex disclose the concrete actions that are being carried out to solve Mexican families who are suffering from the shortage of gasoline and diesel," the statement said. They suggest that one of the causes of the shortage is the lack of transport capacity and storage of fuels, after the López Obrador government announced the use of pipes instead of pipelines to transport the fuel. "The decision of the federal government to close the pipelines, to prevent the theft of fuel, has resulted in a shortage of gasoline and diesel. For Mexican families, the remedy was worse than the disease, "they say. With information from Criterio Hidalgo, El Sol de Puebla, Zona Franca, Quadratín and W Radio. |

RE: Authoritative guess about the gas problem?
Now that AMLO has solved the problem of fuel theft, he's working on a similar method to prevent bank robberies: he plans to close all the banks.

RE: Authoritative guess about the gas problem?
As the article below indicates, the government's plan to "send 41 thousand barrels of gasoline to Guanajuato to regulate the supply of fuel" is woefully inadequate.

Tried asking Pemex for delivery info using their website's Contact form. The message did not
go through. Perhaps Pemex receives too many queries. |

RE: Authoritative guess about the gas problem?
Thanks to Don Juane. You found the same info on the internet with sources. I guess my friends were very well informed since what you found matches with what they told me. So, let's hope that the tanks come down safely. I'd still like to find out more about refineries within MX. Not a good time to be sending it to the US to be refined.

RE: Authoritative guess about the gas problem?
Pemex currently has six large refineries. All are located in the eastern and southern areas of the country, where the oil is found. For many years Pemex has bought refined products, including gasoline, from USA refineries to send into its western and northern markets to avoid long distance distribution.
One of those major refineries is in Salamanca, only 50 miles from GTO, and that of course is the principal supply point for our area and much of central Mexico. Closing the Salamanca to Leon pipeline has caused this disruption in supply as trucks and railroad tank cars must assume the delivery burden. One of AMLOs first actions was to authorize the construction of a new refinery. To be located in his home state of Tabasco. |

MEXICO 09/01/2019 8:51 AM CST | Updated 3 hours ago Do not panic: AMLO asks for support from citizens in the face of gasoline shortage Shortage of fuel in CDMX was caused by an accident that had a pipe when it came from Tuxpan to the capital. By Georgina Hernández President Andrés Manuel López Obrador on Wednesday asked for the support of citizens to avoid making panic purchases and not recharge their tanks if they still have fuel. I ask the Mexicans to support us in order not to be subjugated, to be beaten by crime, that we all succeed and end up with the theft of fuels. " We are going to resist all the pressures that are and I ask the people to help us. How? Acting with prudence, with serenity, without falling into panic, ignoring alarmist, biased information from those who directly or indirectly favor this corrupt regime that is about to end. " This was said at the morning conference held at the National Palace, where the president again assured that there is enough gas in the country and that the federal government is already in the process of regularizing the supply. It would be easy to open the pipelines and say that the situation was already normalized, but knowingly maintain the theft, that is, accept, tolerate the theft. We're not going to do that. " Since the beginning of the year, there has been a shortage of fuels in at least 25 states of the country derived from the plan against fuel theft that the federal administration undertook, which consists of a change in the logistics of Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex), which includes the closing of pipelines and the distribution by auto-tanks, safer transport, according to the oil company. Lopez Obrador stressed that this Tuesday was the day when less gas was stolen because the number he has is only 27 pipes, "after stealing more than a thousand." Shortage in CDMX was for this When referring to the situation of supply problems in Mexico City and other parts of the country, the president said that yesterday they were about to solve the problem in the capital, but there was an accident in a pipeline from Tuxpan to Azcapotzalco , "which was what It is causing us problems, we do not know what happened, if it was intentional or a leak in the pipeline ". It is also the other call we make, that is avoided by all means, especially the people who affect the pipelines to avoid causing accidents. " |
