After 33 years of Mexican travel and 6 years of GTO I have convinced my wife to sell and buy a home in GTO. ANY realtors recommended?

We just bought a place, after much looking on various channels. We were picky, wanting a place closer to the Centro but not one requiring hikes down and back up. Here is what we learned:

It seems there is no exclusivity with real estate agents. That is, the same property may be represented by several agents - at times at different prices! We had limited success with any of the agents following up with us with newly listed properties. Also, there seem to be two types of sales: those made known by the word of mouth and no agents, and those listing.

For the first batch - word of mouth - you have tapped into a good venue right here at gtolist where many expats are interconnected. For the listed ones can almost view them all on the Mexico-wide web pages like Vivanuncios, Mituala, or the real estate agency web sites.

Laughed out loud at this post. Normally you try to stay away from them, declining services.

**** And while ho use in GTO is illegal, as it is in all of Mexico, some realtor's I've read about can leave an equally bad taste. (So always proceed with caution.)

******* I see the context of this original post has changed a bit so now I have to ask what do you call that, a Freudian Slip, naming the search for a realtor "ho use" ;-)

I found my house in 1999 from an independent realtor who had a few ads in the Chopper. It was not listed with any large real estate company nor did it have a "se vende" sign outside, his listings were found by word of mouth and a lot of footwork. I'm not sure if this is still the case, but you can also check in the Chopper.

Two suggestions, neither particularly creative.
Casa Solaris, long time agency, honorable.
Foot and mouth: many many properties never see the public market. Walking around desirable areas and asking, asking uncovers the occasional gem. Marfil and La Presa seemed to offer the highest potential.
If any value, we spent four years diligently looking for house or buildable lot. Cab drivers, waiters, store clerks all became instant brokers! We finally connected with a local family member who knew of a coming estate sale. The rest is history.
