any violence there?

We're getting ready to head back to GTO from the states, and I just read of some massive violence in lower Guanajuato state. Any problems you've heard about in the city? (Just thought I'd ask, even though I doubt it would change our travel plans) Thanks!

Jerécuaro is definitely on the front lines. There have been several other nasty incidents there over the past couple of months.

Any direct answer would offer, of course there is violence everywhere.
As to organized, ie, cartel inspired, killings and kidnappings, none that I know. However a fully accurate response is nothing has occurred here in GTO Capital that causes us concern about our safety.
Our gardener’s teenage son recently had his phone stolen at knife point at noon on a busy street in Marfil. Those types of petty material focused crime continue and maybe are more frequent, but attacks on your person, no issues for us.
