Safety in GTO and shipping personnel items

Hello,

I lived in Silao for a year, but I had to return to the US to care for a sick parent. We are considering returning to the GTO / Leon area. However my wife has obtain recent info suggesting the things have changed a lot in the last few months, and crimes, narco trafficking and related violence has increased greatly in the state of GTO. Has anyone experienced this and do you see any changes there?

Also when I visited the forum in the past I was referred to a guy who had a trucking or transportation company that could move personal items and household goods from the US / Texas area to the GTO area, how're I lost his name and info. I believe he was also involved in desert racing too, if anyone know him or knows someone that can transport items from the US to GTO please send me their info.

Indeed, there has been a state-wide increase in crime, and the month of September was really bad. One area where there was a not of nastiness was Penjamo.

To me petty theft and burglaries do seem to have increased. Probably ties to poor education and under-employment of young males. Sensible Prevention may be your best defense. Crimes that threaten the person remain rare, very rare unless one goes looking.

I did have a friend (Female) assaulted last March by a man in a security guard uniform in the early evening near the entrance to the Dead Dog Tunnel. Bit shocked as I also was staying in that area.
I have read of large increases of crime in San Miguel but this was my first personal knowledge in GTO.
As a resident of The San Francisco Bay area I know crime is everywhere even near my summer home in Trinity County, California a most rural county (18,000 bears but only 14,000 people) has some major crime. I guess it is everywhere.
