What Items Can Not Be Brought to MX?
A Canadian friend just arrived in PV for her 6 month stay in Bucerias. She was allowed to bring some tea bags and coffee but not dried cranberries and almonds. My sister in law will be arriving at the end of Oct for our visit to Bucerias and thought of bringing the Canadian some MI maple syrup. I doubt I'd get a straight answer if I went to the airport. Where are the rules? Easier to ask you guys than go searching for it. Thanks

You can get real maple syrup at the Mega - and Costco has had it for years.

One thing I do know is the laws have gotten more stringent regarding consumables It is going to be a very long list

RE: What Items Can Not Be Brought to MX?
She should have been allowed the cranberries and almonds if they were in a sealed/original packaging bag. I brought in a whole suitcase of food last time I flew in, it went through the xray and they were fine with it (even had dried kangaroo meat but sealed and labeled packaging). As long as they are packed items then there should be a problem. For Australia fresh seeds and fresh/dried products are a problem but any bagged stuff I have never had a problem with.

Maple syrup is fine to bring in,I bring it in all the time from Canada and lots of it. Also spices and most food products as long as it is clearly labelled. Rice and grains are not allowed. The syrup at mega is the mass produced kind and approx. $20 a small bottle.

Costco-Canada site:
Your Price $39.99 /2 --- so $20 USD/+-CAD here it s not such a bad price? This is the same cool bottle albiet with a local Costco label that I have been buying for years. |

I not trying to start an argument but again I have been made aware of many changes most consumables are no longer allowed going through xray machines is great but if someone opens your bag and you say you have kangaroo meat sealed or not they are taking it away. the truth is even the people working checking don't know what you can bring in in many cases. So how is Kangaroo meat I wouldn't mind giving it a try. would it put a spring in my step?

RE: What Items Can Not Be Brought to MX?
You guys - I'm not looking for maple syrup. I buy Log Cabin here in MX. There is nothing that I need from the US. But my sister in law would like to share some Made in Michigan maple syrup with our "hostess". There was a time that we brought stuff from the US, but either it is available here or we don't bother with it anymore. I don't know why my friend would bring cranberries or almonds to MX. I doubt that the guys at the border actually follow the law. They got the power so they use it. She got a red light or she probably would have been fine. So...we'll see what happens.

RE: What Items Can Not Be Brought to MX?
I passed a whole suitcase of food through the xray machine with GF cake mixes, GF flour, tamari sauce, tahini, hemp seeds, kangaroo etc (20kg+) 4 weeks ago and I have on every trip here (3 times in the last 1.5 years), to the USA, to the galapagos, to Australia and never had any problems but it has always been packaged stuff with labels, I have never had any problems at all. As long as you claim everything the worst is it will be taken away and it may be expensive but it's the risk you take.

Lisa
When you pass this stuff through have you ever gotten the red light? If you have a green light I don't think they pay attention to you the xray machine is primarily looking for weapons. I have been told directly from customs no meat labelled or not. So I'm glad you got your stuff through but I think you probably had the luck of the green light. |
