Fascinating 12-minute video with an indirect connection to Gto
Stephen Ferry, the photographer who took photos of the Colombian conflict over a period of a dozen years (now out as a book: Violentology), is the brother of Elizabeth Ferry, the anthropologist who has been in and out of Gto many times for her research on the Santa Fe Mining Cooperative. Stephen took the photos for "Not Ours Alone," Elizabeth's book about the miners. The talented two are the offspring of the prizewinning poet David Ferry, their mother was a literary scholar. Interesting to know re Elizabeth's family.

To say "... Elizabeth Ferry, the anthropologist who has been in and out of Gto many times for her research" is quite an understatement. I think she was already here in '96 when I came and at one time lived at the cooperative in Santa Rosa.

A link to her book Not Ours Alone can be found here where selected chapters can be read on-line. Unfortunately Stephen's photos do not display.

Glad to know a sizeable part of Elizabeth's book is online. Readers, the first third you see is very theoretical but worth scrolling down to where she gets down to brass tacks about miners and mining here.

Small world: I know Elizabeth and her family three ways: through her work as an anthropologist, through her father (by sight) who taught at the college I attended, and believe it or not because she is married to the son of my best junior high school friend.
I'll add that she was also a renter at Bill's complex one summer and yes she did live at least a year in Santa Rosa.
