Dept Health fumigation
Today the Dept of Health came asking to fumigate my house to prevent dengue. Since I have a background in environmental toxicology, I ask what chemical they were using. He showed me the container. The brand name is Ficam, the chemical name is bendiocarb. I declined to have this used in my house. Here is some information from sources I respect to help you decide.

I did allow some Bacillus thurengensis to be put in my water tank a few weeks ago. It causes a disease that only mosquitoes get, so the larvae do not mature.

RE: Dept Health fumigation
Maybe two years ago after treating victims, the vet Dr. Caldera warned that anti-dengue chemicals can kill pets. Assuming this year's fumigation uses the same ingredients, do not permit it to be sprayed at your casa.

RE: Dept Health fumigation
When I left the house soon after, I saw the group with their handheld fumigator. They have absolutely no safety clothes. They are spraying in their street clothes! As a former certified pesticide applicator, it is apparent that these people are totally clueless about the toxicity of this product. If I were using this product, I would have rubber gloves, respirator, goggles and hooded disposable Tyvek suit, and have an emergency kit with water and soap to wash with. This product has high dermal toxicity. If they have no training, now I wonder if they even measure the product correctly.
Wow. Just wow.
