Toro Gourmet - New Artisanal Foods Vendor in Mercado Hidalgo
“Toro Gourmet” (pink sign near the chicken vendors) is a new artisanal & all-natural foods vendor stand opening in Mercado Hidalgo. Enrique, the owner, trained at a Wolfgang Puck restaurant. His family also makes the sausages I & others have mentioned on this forum. Ingredients locally sourced and products made in GTO.

They plan to offer:
Sausages: Lamb, chicken curry/cranberry, Spanish, rabbit and truffle, herb, black pudding etc.

Sauces/marmalades: Apricot, prune, cranberry, pistachio etc.

Chicken wings with hot sauces

Cheeses: Brie, various Italian, feta, mascarpone, parmesan etc.(less expensive than Mega/Commercial).

Enrique can also source and special order any oils, herbs, or ingredients from around México. He also runs a reliable car/taxi service we use for our renters: 473-129-0402

I went there today. Whoever was working there did not speak any English. I have some Spanish and purchased what were supposed to be Italian sausage, but there were no fennel seed in them. I wouldn't say it was Italian sausage but with that said it was an excellent sausage. Best Sausage I've had in my 7 years living in Mexico. Went well with a little dijon. I didn't see any cheese. I'll definitely be back for more.

Good news for those of us without cars that he's now at the Mercado Hidalgo. Hope he'll soon be carrying parmesan cheese among others.

Well, gee, I was there in very early afternoon today, and nobody there. Showcases empty, but the sign was still up. Does he take Wednesdays off?

Going into the market through the main entrance on Juarez, turn left and you'll find Toro's large stall in the corner. I don't know why T is maintaining the small one in the back with no one in it. I suggested the T people put up a sign to direct people to the proper stall but apparently nothing has happened.

Well, dang, I'll try again! I only looked by the chicken vendors because I was loaded down with other shopping and in a hurry.
