garden stuff?
Does anyone here know where I can find some herb seeds, or even better would be started plants. Also, will any of the local hardware stores deliver potting soil? We will need quite a bit to start with and don't have our own vehicle.

Any advice appreciated!

you can get some seeds (and perhaps some starter plants...not sure) from Nicole at Natura GTO. her store is on Campanero....in the building where there is the "Cowfee" Shop and the soy ice cream place, near Santo Cafe.

You can get started plants both inside and outside the Embajadores market. Also there are herb plants for sale on the Alhondiga side of the street leading to Dos Rios. Sometimes they are also sold in Plaza Baratillo in Centro.

Potting Soil - I don't think you'll find it in a ferreteria - better to look for it at a vivero - there is a pretty good one on the libre to Silao. You might be disappointed in the quality or fineness [or lack thereof] of the soil. For something more like what you'd be used to in Canada or the US you'll probably have to go to Leon and Home Depot. Also search this page for tierra preparada and you'll find some other sources in Leon.

Re delivery - it can be arranged for anything in Mexico.

We second the advice on most local soil available for purchase. You will probably find it way too thin and week, more leaf matter than soil. For pot use Home Depot offers bags of good quality soil. For larger quantities and even better soil, for large planters, gardens, beds, etc. you can find guys that will bring a pickup of "river" soil from out in the campo [/u]which is really fine stuff.

Look for the word "compuestos" on the bag, it usually means higher quality than just "tierra". The vivero under the huge tree opposite to the Embajadoras school (close to the tunnel) have good quality compost soil. For larger quantities you can surely negotiate and he will order.

Stay away from the "soil" delivered on donkey, it is a bag full of leaves, stones, candy paper and road-side fillers.

Got some started plants at Embajadores market and our soil at Mega.
Spent today putting in the beginning of our restaurant's herb garden.
