IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS

A WARNING TO THE COMMUNITY.

Yesterday, I learned that a couple of our community friends were robbed. All their important documents, valuables, and many important things, like their computers, were taken from their home in spite of their security measures.

May I suggest that all of us scan our important documents and save them on the free "CLOUD" space offered by Google? This is a space that can be accessed from any computer, at any time, and from any part of the world.

Having a scan or copy of your documents in your local drive is not enough to keep your important documents safe. If your computers get stolen, you end up with nothing.

You need to be able to show a copy, or know the numbers of your documents, when you report a theft. And you will need to carry a copy of these documents in case you do get stopped by the Mexican authorities, at any time.

It is sad, that we have to, lately, take extra measures of security as these thefts increase. Being prepared is now a part of life in Guanajuato. I, myself, will spend the day doing just that...

Be safe not sorry!

I use a service called Carbonite which will back your entire PC up on line automatically. Any changes you make are backed up automatically. Very easy to use. www.carbonite.com

Another free option that works well for me is DropBox.

RE: IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS
I like Dropbox a lot too; it's very user-friendly. They give 2GB of storage to free accounts, which is more than sufficient for keeping important documents backed up. You'll get a little extra free storage if you click on the "invitation" link below to sign up:

RE: IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS
Sad to hear this is an increasing problem in Gto.

Do any of you use security systems etc?

RE: IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS
Thanks for the suggestions from all of you. And now I know why people have house sitters beyond needing their pets or plants cared for.

RE: IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS
Indeed. Regular, random and visible presence is a great deterrent to most baddies.
