Border crossing procedure, tourist card
I suppose all crossings into the u.s. are the same but i am specifically asking about your experience at Nuevo Laredo leaving Mexico on a six-month tourist visa.
Please correct my memory. 1. In your car you first go to the aduana kiosk and have the permiso certificate sticker removed from your car windshield... 2. And the attendant keeps the sticker 3. And the attendant makes no note or other mark on your tourist card. 4. And then you go to immigration and surrender your tourist card. 5. Does immigration ask anything about the status of your car and aduana? I note that the tourist card FMM has no notation about my having entered with an automobile. |

RE: Border crossing procedure, tourist card
NO interaction with the Mexican govt. is "the same." Every crossing, either way, is a crap shoot. The same is true getting your visa, getting stopping on the highway, taking in horses, renewing an Fm3/no imgrante - every interaction is subject to change! Also, laws change with out even 24 hours notice.
That's Mexico!!! |

RE: Border crossing procedure, tourist card
Doyle, I believe they both give you a receipt. No questions. Except, if you paid the cash deposit, you go inside to get a refund at the car place. I paid cash, as they didn't refund almost $25 of the deposit on my CC the first time, said it was MY BANK and not them (NOT TRUE, BUT WHAT CAN YOU DO?). So, now I leave a $300 cash deposit every 6 months and they give me the cash back. Not a big hassle, except they give it to me in front of everyone. You must also give them the original paper where you paid for the FMM, they will not accept the copy. Since I can't tell the difference, I give them both and they give one back to me.
