School Starts in rural GTO for some kids

Our nonprofit will dress six kids for school before Aug. 20.
Two of those kids are the offspring of the mother who just had twins July 3. She is a single mother of 4; two school age. Many kids do not get to go to school because they cannot buy the uniforms.
The school dress set is $295 pesos ($22 USD) the school gym set is $350 pesos ($26 USD). We gringos think $48 is pretty good price for heavy school uniforms (dress: white shirt, heavy sweater, skirt or pants & Gym: knit shirt, sweat pants, and jacket).

It takes nearly 4 days of back-breaking male labor to make $48. Men here always have several kids. Min wage is $3.75 for an 8 hour day - 13 days to make $48 by a house-cleaning female.

That is why, we will spend about $350+ USD to outfit 6 kids for school. We have done that every fall since moving here. The mission of Summerland (Tierra de Verano) (1993) is education. Here, there is no stronger way to show that commitment.

Please burn a candle or have a moment of silence for these marginalized rural kids who come to school hungry, but at least some attend. We volunteers never have to wonder if getting up in the morning is worthwhile, to "our kids", about 100 of them. We offer swimming, equine therapy, and water therapy weekly, not as often, English, and art classes.

BTW - any donations are tax deductible on USA taxes as we are a 501©3 nonprofit.
