Would having a spell checker be a valuable feature of this forum?
Is there a way to use spell checking on this forum? Currently no. If you are like me seeing posts which haven't been proofed is annoying. A built in spell checker would seem like a great asset - then I came across this:

Aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at an Elingsh uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is taht frist and lsat ltteer is at the rghit pclae. The rset can be a toatl mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae we do not raed ervey lteter by it slef but the wrod as a wlohe. So tell me, how iprmoetnt can spellnig be?

That is so true... But if you are a perfectionist, like me, use WORD. It has a spell checker and once you are satisfied with your message, copy and paste it here. As a teacher and "OCDer", it just about kills me to see misspelled words but I?ve learned to accept it. Hehehe I also think we can all learn to be a little more tolerant of one another in this forum, can?t we? Just a thought...

I for one would not like to see a spell-checker on this forum, for two reasons. I'm always careful to proofread my own submissions, and I enjoy the mistakes of others. :P

Spell checker? Oh, good grief -- not necessary. But, thanks for the thought.

And aides me when aye rime.

Each frays comes posed up on my screen

The checker pours o?er every word
To cheque sum spelling rule.

Bee fore a veiling checkers

And if we?re laks oar have a laps,

My pay purrs awl due glad den
With wrapped words fare as hear.

To rite with care is quite a feet
Of witch won should be proud,
And wee mussed dew the best wee can,
Sew flaws are knot aloud.

Sow ewe can sea why aye dew prays
Such soft wear four pea seas,
And why eye brake in two averse

So true about the first and last letter, we do tend to fill in the rest as I can attest to from some 25 years of editing and proofing copy. I always send out for a fresh pair of eyes before copy goes to press.

That said, a spell check is a darned good idea. However, I am Canadian so do me a favour and don't be surprised if my spelling behaviour differs from that of the Americans amongst us.

I just tried this and it works well within this forum and on other fill in box sites. This is actually an extension to ie explorer. Thanks peddler!
