I was less than clear about food cost. I am/was referring to things I buy weekly such as Milk, Coffee, Imported cheese, can goods etc. Ice cream (the real stuff) runs at least 3 x's what I pay in the US. Even the BBQ Chickens run more (85 pesos at Mega, $4.50 US at Winco) unless you go to the smaller markets & but 2 ( 100 pesos) something is just too wasteful when alone
Fruits & veggies are far cheaper than the US. So that does bring my total costs down considerbly
