RE: Expanding air service
Not to Leon but I flew 5 times this season on Aeromexico finding them vastly superior to any US carrier.
Flew SFO (San Francisco) to MEX first class with a connecting flight for ZIH (Zihuatanejo) for $298 US.
Flew ZIH to OAX (Oaxaca) via MEX for $198 US
Then flew home OAX to MEX then again first class MEX to SFO for a total cost of under $300 US.
Got to check our 2 extra bags (wife is a shopper) for free & access to Aeromexico's International Lounge with free food, drinks & services at MEX.
Flights were all on time with service like we use to get on Mexicana in the old days.
They are our airline of choice in the future!

RE: Expanding air service
The new Interjet shuttle between BJX and MEX only makes sense if you are connecting to another destination on Interjet, e.g. Merida, Palenque, Cancun, Campeche, Guatemala, JFK, etc. I imagine the combined fare will competitive.

In terms of the InterjetMore important, if your BJX<==>MEX flight gets delayed or cancelled, Interjet will be obligated to get you to your destination and back home. If you purchase a separate itinerary on A DIFFERENT CARRIER departing or coming back to MEX, and one of your flights gets delayed/cancelled, causing you to miss a connection, you are S.O.L.

So again, the Interjet BJX<==>MEX service only makes sense in the context of an all-Interjet itinerary, or if money is no concern to you. With that in mind, we've flown Interjet to 9 different destinations so far, and the experience has been 100% positive.

RE: Expanding air service
We just flew Aeromex BJX to ATL, with a change in MEX, $366 each r/t. Easy and on time, with a decent sandwich lunch on the longer legs. Delta non-stop BJX to ATL was $740 each, so AM with connection was 1/2 price! One unexpected wrinkle, AM now weighs your carry-on bags at the gate as you board with a 10kg limit , otherwise $18 per kg if overweight. BTW, official taxi home from BJX to La Presa casa was 470 pesos, gypsy cab wanted 350!

Interjet now has a promotional rate for their BJX-MEX service; $152 round trip.

RE: Expanding air service
Thanks for the heads up on Interjet! My best route these days is AirCanada (direct but not my favourite Airline) to DF so the Interjet promotions for $85.60 taxes and fees in from DF to Leon are wonderful, so much faster than ETN my bus line of choice. Plus, no need to trek out to Norte either the airport is much closer to where I normally stay. Even at their regular $125 price it is well worth it to save the time and the boring freeway drive.

Two announcement in yesterday's AM: Interjet is going to start BJX-Puerto Vallarta flights, and United is running BJX-LAX flights. These United flights already exist.

RE: Expanding air service / buses
Is LAX as horrendous as online reviews make out? what is the minimum safe connection time there? In fact, does anyone have a favorite US-entry airport?

Re Terminal del Norte - an authorized taxi to the historical center costs $120, Metro (steps) with one change at La Raza about 5 pesos, good if you're staying near or south of the Alameda. Green trolley-bus (no steps) goes to Bellas Artes, a bit slower 4 pesos. My technique: I go in on the trolley-bus, transfer if need be to a cheap cab at Bellas Artes, returning I do take a taxi about 45 pesos. And don't worry that the trolley-bus goes north for a couple of minutes before turning around toward the Centro Historico.

It is horrendous - esp if you are a transit pax not needing to be in US at all. All pax must clear immigration and then customs then recheck bags [that have already gone through security] and then go 'outside' meaning you have to go through Security again and if you have baby milk get pulled aside and given the choice of chuck the milk or get a feel down [only one family member so what maybe the detonator is overlooked 75% of the time given a family of our size?] Total BS. On the return they lost our double stroller to wheel the sleepy little ones through the endless blind corridors needed to get to the BS arena because we landed 20 min early - couldn't get a gate so we were parked on the tarmac and had to be bussed in [so much for being 20 min early]

Other good news: Gate 58 area [DL] shop H2O was only $4.35 per half liter. I didn't buy
Inflight to BJX drinks were for sale - since this was at the end of a 30 hr trek I ordered 2 beers at whatever cost only to learn that the card processor had malfunctioned - so On the House - wish I could have changed the order for something more upscale.

Getting back to connecting time -if the airline's website sets up the trip it assumes MCT is met so should you miss your connection it is their fault and liability. If on the other hand you set up your own cnx independently Airline 1 has no obligation to help you in your cnx to Airline 2

This LAX step-by-step spells it out but misses the need to go though security again

RE: Expanding air service
My favorite entry point to USA is Tijuana If you keep looking you can get great flights on Volaris. Then take a shuttle to downtown San Diego which drops you at the border crossing where you walk across and then get picked up on the other side. You can also take a bus or taxi to the border crossing if you have someone in San Diego. Best part is no one will ever ask you for a tourist card in case you've been here too long or lost yours. Also San Diego is a Frontier hub so cheap flights on frontier to many destinations. Downside:the border crossing can be crowded the longest I've waited is 45 minutes other times I have walked across in 5 minutes
