Request for Volunteers
For several years, a group of 4-6 women have volunteered at a woman?s shelter here in Guanajuato. All the residents of this shelter have escaped violent or abusive home situations and have left that environment with their children.
The projects we work on are varied? but are geared toward creating things that can be sold at local sales we hold. All money earned from the sale of an item goes directly back to the individual woman who made it. Our goals are to provide interaction with the women by our presence and to help in their re-development and the resurrection of their self esteem. Some projects are done while we are at the shelter with the women and some are ?assignments? the women can do during the week in our absence. We endeavor to find things the women can learn to do to help earn money even after they leave the shelter as they begin their new lives. Right now, we need 2 to 3 (or more) women who would like to work with us. We only provide our services one time a week and that is on Thursdays between 10:00 a.m. to (about) 1:30 p.m... The ?sale of works? events are held 4-5 times a year and are staffed by our team & assisted by volunteers from a sister organization in town.
