Other than the IMSS clinic on Cantarranas in Centro, where can one go for
a medical checkup? Are there IMSS hospitals in GTO? Are ISSTE hospitals available to use? Thanks, Gloria

Gigi, what do you mean exactly when you say "a medical checkup?" Just a routine exam? Then you should go to a Dr's office. For IMSS I think you need to be a member - same goes for ISSTE [and after one experience with them I'd never go back] At the General Hospital [out behind the bus station] the emergency room will treat anyone and at a modest cost. There is also the Centro de Salud at the corner just down the street after the Comercial Mexicana

We too are newly arrived and looking for a health care relationship. Does anyone have experience/comment on the private "hospital/clinic" located on Paseo de La Presa a little below the DIF complex? Do they have any English speaking doctors on staff? It is convenient to our new home. Thanks for any information.

RE: Medical care in GTO???
I have been to the medical center at Paseo de la Presa. I asked for an english speaking doctor and the one who received me spoke english rather poorly. I got a medical checkup with blood samples and heart check, it was a little over 1000 pesos. The visit alone to the doctor is around 400 pesos, the more expensive part is the blood tests in the lab next door.

It is said to be the most expensive clinic in town, but waiting is quick. Based on my limited two visits I am satisfied but not extremely impressed either.

As side note: A Guanajuato-born friend is a medical doctor. She said if she is unconscious, she wants to be taken to the hospital at the bus station, she rates them the highest in town.

RE: Medical care in GTO???
Its called the Hospital General de Guanajuato and is operated by the Secretaria de Salud del Estado de Guanajuato They will attend to anyone on an EMERGENCY basis - go past Security and the Main Entrance [Madres y Ninos] then around to the side. At 2pm its not bad - at 8am there is quite a line.

Routine care is handled at the Centro de Salud a block past the Comer - you need to be a member - you can get info on their plans here - and its perhaps best to follow Doug Bower's advice and learn Spainsh if using any of these local services [Doug on why he Loves Mexican Docotrs]
