award winning book reading
You are invited to hear the story of the Quechua god of the underworld, El Tio, who 400 years ago promised a gift for the people who believed in him, a gift of an enormous deposit of silver which would change the people's lives forever. Authors Karen and Larry will present photos [/size]and slides, and read from their memoir of their ten-year journey into the life of the Quechua village of San Cristobal, a village that had to be moved in order for the mine to be developed so that the villagers could receive their gift. You will see the on-going conflict between the liberal wife ("Leave them alone," she said) and the conservative husband ("Hell, they need the jobs."), and along the way meet blind witches, monsters that scream in the night, rocks that come alive, and most of all, meet El Tio, a god who just happens to crave human flesh. Yes, he gave them a gift, one that changed their lives forever, but nobody said there weren't strings attached.....
Join us for a reading and book signing in either San Miguel or Guanajuato. In S. Miguel, on 7 April 3 PM at the Biblioteca. Here in Guanajuato on 15 April at 7 PM at the coffee shop called Bagel Cafetin, Plaza San Francisco, a few steps from the Museo Iconografico Quijote. |
