When a world-renowned geologist discovers a huge silver deposit beneath an impoverished Quechua village in the Altiplano of Bolivia, he unknowingly fulfills a 400-year old prophecy that promised a life of wealth for the villagers. His discovery leads to the destruction of the village and sends the geologist and his wife on a 10-year life-changing journey into the Quechua culture.
The dual authorship of their memoir, The Gift of El Tio, allows conservative husband and liberal wife to present conflicting points of view on the emotionally-charged experience they shared. Meet the authors, Larry Buchanan and Karen Gans, at the coffee shop, Bagel Cafetin, plaza San Francisco, just a few steps from the Museo Iconografico Quijote, on Friday, April 15, 7 PM for a book reading and signing. |
