house for rent
This home is for long term rental.
My wife, and I along with our 2 children have rented this house for this school year. We are leaving June 4th, 2011 and as a favor to my friendly Mexican landlord I'm listing this and due to the fact that this is a great home, great location and a great price that you won't find on the internet. My wife and I found it when we were down here in person last July.
The home comes with furniture and we have bought quite a few things for the kitchen that we are leaving. The view is very, very nice looking at the bluffs and is South facing so we stayed warm all winter long, unlike many other folks we talked with. The home also has a sun room , a porch on the top floor where the bedrooms are and a small front patio. It has one full bath, another bath has toilet and sink and the other bath has a shower and toilet. It's very private, with only a little street noise.
You do have to climb 4 sets of steps to get to the house and there is no assigned parking. The parking is random on the street. There are always workers on the street, who for 40-80 cents will be happy to carry groceries etc.

Again, we have NO financial interest in this listing. It is only our way of trying to pass on a great deal and what for us, has been the best possible place. It's location is on Avenida de la Presa, halfway between Escuela Normal and La Presa de la Olla (the lake). This is a 10 minute walk to Jardin Embajadoras and then 10 minutes further along brings you to the very center of the city, Jardin Union. The street that we live on is one of the most secure areas of the city and buses run about every 10 minutes between our house and go through the entire city.

If you are looking for a VERY American type home, this is not the one for you. It's clean, comfortable and all our guests that come in, immediately say how great it is, BUT it's not new and the floor tiles have some cracks and chips, as well the tiles in the kitchen do too. The upstairs shower doesn't have much water pressure but works fine, where as the bottom floor shower works great, but is a small space. So, there are little things that you have to be willing to say that this is Mexico and not the US., and if you are able to do that, then maybe this is just the place you are looking for.

RE: house for rent
Sorry I forgot some of the basics.

The house has three bedrooms and the rent monthly is 5,500 pesos. Additionally, you have to pay electricity, water, gas and phone and internet. Water in about 100 pesos/month, electricity is about 200 pesos/month, gas....we go through a tank about every 6-7 weeks and a tank is 307 pesos and we have 2mg speed internet, and with the phone this costs 600 pesos/month with this including free 100 local calls, 100 minutes to the US.

We live at the end of a callejon, which I don't know why, but it is called a privada, perhaps because it services only 6 houses and I think they are all owned by one person except one. The steps that I referred to are in the callejon/privada and once you do the climb to the house, the only steps are to go upstairs or out back to the area to dry clothes.

Thanks,

RE: house for rent
Hi Steve,

I'm interested in looking at pics of this house. We are looking for Jan-June 2012 and I especially like the idea that it is not a Home Depot house!
Family of 4, In theory our kids would go to Instituto Guanajuato, so this location might not be ideal. On the other hand I'm letting go of being very central as it was quite noisy. Did your kids go to school at La Salle?

I'm not clear on bedrooms--we need three, ideally one with a King sized bed. I'm hoping for a painting studio and some sort of office for my husband.

This is a new idea for us, but I think six months in Guanajuato would be great for my kids (11, 12). I've just joined up on this forum. ANY info is helpful.

We live near Ottawa, Canada.
Thanks,
Rosemary

RE: house for rent
Rosemary: If your children are 9th grade or less I would highly recommend the Montessori school here, where my children and we also, just love what the school does and what it is about.

http://www.montessorigto.com/Montessori/Bienvenida.html

If you decided on that school , then this end of town is perfect for the transportation, as it picks our kids up at Escuela Normal ( 5 minute walk).

I doubt this house will be open in Jan 2012, as I assume someone will rent it prior to that, but upon leaving if it isn't rented I can give you the contact info. for the landlord.
