looking for pottery/dishes
We are looking to purchase dishes, plates, soups bowls, platters, mugs, etc.. of talavera pottery. probably service for 8-12. Then we want to have everything shipped back home to the States (preferably by the shop we purchase from).

Can anyone recommend a place either here, Santa Rosa or Dolores Hidalgo? Thanks so much.

We've bought from DeTalavera on Calle Puebla in Dolores Hidalgo for years - their quality (all lead-free) and prices are great. They pack very well, but I don't know if they ship. UPS or DHL ships from Dolores. Good luck.

DML I highly recommend gtolist member Mexhapati [Rene Olguin] in Dolores. He has an old post here: http://www.gtolist.com/forum/mybb1/showt...=mexhapati and you can find his website here http://www.mexhapati.com/english.htm

One thing I learned years ago about Dolores when I wanted large quantities of tile was that many of the shops only had a sq meter or two - so you order it and have it made. Well, if you are about to take that step think a second more - you are no longer limited to the patterns in front of you - anything can be made. Rene and his staff of artisans can make whatever you want.

Have you checked the majolica in Santa Rosa? They will pack and ship to the USA. We've purchased there and had things shipped to GA/USA and were happy with the care in packing and reasonable shipment time. Dolores Hidalgo may be less expensive, but personally the workmanship is "finer" or less rustic at Santa Rosa in our opinion/taste. That said, it's all beautiful and certainly there is something for every style and preference! Isn't shopping half the fun?! If you visit Santa Rosa, a meal at the hotel restaurant La Sierra is wonderful.
