Gringo builds house at night near Piplila?
Does anyone know who is doing this?

The story* [if true] is bad enough - wait until you read the comments it has generated. We [the G-people] are not all that loved.

It would be worth checking back later in the day as the comments build.

Yes, I know who is building this house just below the Pipila (not me). The "house" was already there, part of the complex that includes the funicular terminal. The development now is for a garden and landscaping. The people used a M?xican architect and all permits are in place, including INAH. I believe that they are working late in the day because they want to get the work done; not because they are doing anything illegal.

I also suspect that the article is a D?a de los Inocentes spoof, as do several people who commented in the Correo's online edition.

Today's Correo also includes an item about an ice-skating rink coming to La Bufa. Definitely a spoof!

End of the year April Fool's or not the article has had an impact.

In defense of fairness and journalistic responsibility Maestra Martha has commented in el Correo:

The next move is up to el Correo - let's see what the morning brings.

I believe today?s (small and hidden) article in El Correo (http://www.correo-gto.com.mx/notas.asp?id=202215) will put an end to the hate and negative publicity generated by the first one. It saddens me to realize how irresponsible some of these reporters are, and how ignorant some of the readers can be by believing everything they read. ALL reporters, writers and anybody who supposedly informs the public should always check their facts before they write them. Let?s hope this whole episode is over, especially the negative responses against the foreign community. I, for one, feel ashamed of those sentiments. I hope Mr. Ochoa learned something from this experience as well.

WE WISH YOU ALL FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS A HAPPY, PEACEFUL, AND MOST PROSPEROUS 2011.

Thanks for the link, Martha. I might otherwise have missed the story, which indeed was buried.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I urge everyone to be mindful that the Correo is perhaps the least reliable of our local newspapers. It's wise to take what it publishes with a grain of salt, or maybe a whole salero.

Feliz a?o to you and all.

Don
