Chapel within the University

On Facebook someone recently posted photos of a chapel or inglesia within the main University of Guanajuato building. I recall visiting a small 16th? century inglesia near the cine west of the main UG building. Then again I thought I read somewhere that the oldest church in Guanajuato is inside the main UG building. Is the inglesia within the UG accessible to the public, and is it the oldest?

There is one inside the university, right over the ex convento, it is just the facade of an old church that used to be near Mellado in one of the mines. They moved it there probably 30 or 40 years ago. It is just the facade, on the inside I believe there is a library or classroom.

But the oldest one is not inside the university, it is near the cine, it is a very small chapel near the INAPAM building. I am not sure if you can visit it, but as any other church or chapel in Guanajuato, I am sure there is a time of the day they pray there, or at least a day on the year were they open it to celebrate.

I don't remember the exact date of construction but if you go there there is a plate with the information.

There is one more inside museo del pueblo, again, they moved part of the facade of a church that used to be out of town into the museum, in order to preserve it. I don't know any more information about this one, but you can visit the museum, which actually is very interesting!

That clears things up. I have visited the church near the Cine about 15 years ago, which I understood to be the oldest in Guanajuato. I hope to see the Chapel within the University on our next visit, primarily to see the inner courtyard of that magnificent building. I have visited the Museo de Pueblo but don't recall that chapel. There is so much to see in Guanajuato I often forget the details. Thanks again.
