Correction, please! (for Doug Bower)

One week ago, I posted a note on this forum about an error Doug Bower had made in his newly revived blog. In copying an article from a local newspaper, Doug repeated the newspaper?s erroneous statement that 23,000 Mexican children had been murdered in a three-year period. The correct number, as I pointed out, was 2,300.

Although the newspaper published my correction on its website, Doug has not yet corrected the error on his blog. I know that Doug reads this forum, so I?m puzzled by his inaction. All bloggers make mistakes, but responsible bloggers are quick to correct them.

There is an additional error in Doug?s blog post, one I failed to note when I first read it. His headline attributes the information about the murders to the Organization for Economic Coooperation and Development. In fact, it comes from a report by the Red por los Derechos de la Infancia en M?xico. As the OECD is prominent and well-regarded and the REDIM obscure, I think the correction is important.

Doug, will you now please correct these errors? To allow them to stand puts Mexico in an unfavorable light that it does not deserve.

As always, I would prefer to file my criticism directly with Doug?s blog, rather than use the gtolist for that purpose. However, Doug does not allow comments on his blog from anyone but ?team members.? Are there, in fact, any team members?
