Dog "park"
I know Leon recently opened a large dog park - I know there probably isn't one in GTO, but where do folks take their dogs for a free-for-all-in-nature run? (as in not free-roaming in the streets - lol) We are behind Baratillo....

Thanks!

I'd love to know if you find a place! I feel badly for my dog who was used to long daily off leash romps in the woods. Now, all he gets is a little off leash time around the jardin.

Ok, so - back to the original question - are there nature romps nearby for us to take our dogs for a hike? And, if so, where are trailheads, etc? Our original house purchase was going to be near Plaza Mexiamora, but now we are nearby the stadium, in Embajadoras.

Thanks,

Alisa

I'd suggest doing a search on this site for hikes. La Bufa should come up, as well as Santa Rosa de Lima. We don't live in Guanajuato, just visited, but I find myself addicted to this forum somehow. We hiked both routes when we were here last.

We took a small road off Panoramica that only had a few cars on it to get to Santa Rosa de Lima. There will be a an old church that you pass first, and this might be far enough if you just want someplace for your dog to run around. If you keep following the road, you'll get to a reservoir (this could be another good spot), and eventually it gets to a little town with a church and cross a tiny footbridge (you'll probably need to ask someone where it is) and follow a water pipe way uphill until you get to Santa Rosa de Lima.

La Bufa is much easier to find and the more obvious choice. Lots of open space.

The road that McNally describes is just up the road from the stadium, although quite a long uphill walk. If you continue up Calle Pastita towards, then on the main road to the left of the Morado museum, you will get to the Panoramica. Take a right for a few hundred yards and a road to the left will take take you all the way to Santa Rosa. The road is just before the creek and there is a sign showing that is a road race route. There is plenty of open country up there. The village he speaks of is Monte de San Nicolas with some mine workings, one small store and an Iglesia. As he mentioned, on the way up is a beautiful abandoned church. It is quite a long hike to Santa Rosa. We hiked down and were pretty dry by the time we got back to Guanajuato.

There's a nice place above San Javier can be accessed by going to the top of Carrizo turning right follow to the end of the road turn left and o n your left is a dirt road next to a big white house or apartment several miles of dog heaven also can be accessed above the Soriana in San Javier go past the Nopal mine take right up a steep hill turn left at the top and just keep walking
