RE: looking for a housekeeper
We can recommend Yolanda. Her number is (473)144-3378. she is available on Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays. She does not speak English. the going rate for a one floor home, two bedrooms, living room, bathroom, kitchen, dining room and some outdoor sweeping is $250 pesos.

You can tell her that Elisa and James sent you. I think she lives in the Centro Alemeda district.

RE: looking for a housekeeper
Not criticizing your quest at all, but this reminds me always how different I am than everyone else. I recall renting my first house in San Miguel for a couple of months about 12 years ago and by the end of the stay, I paid off the free included housekeeper to take the rest of the rental time off and not show up again. What a relief for me not to have someone "popping in" every week.

By the time you work your schedule around someone coming and going and by the time you do a pre-pickup on scheduled days and with that you lose the ability to manage your own activities for those days every week, or by the time you lose your "get away from me, I'm spending the day lounging around in my underwear and I don't feel like hosting anyone today", for me it's easier just to set aside a non-scheduled semi-frequent tornado-like self cleaning session through the house where I don't have to depend on anyone and thus I'm on my own schedule and living my life as a series of random events which I most enjoy about Mexico. With a maid, at least from my own experience, it's like all of a sudden I am a restaurant owner or now worrying about paying the proper salary, bonuses, taxes, etc.

So in brief the message I share (for those amused enough to pay attention) is I came here to do nothing and I have found that doing everything for myself is actually the easiest way to accomplish doing nothing, or at least a little less than if someone is helping me :-)

RE: looking for a housekeeper
I think I am starting to see your point of view DJ. Never know what time my housekeeper will show up, plus, I am not feeling good about the fact that I paid 800 P for a one hour of work. It could have possibly been 1 1/2 hours, which was the amount of time I was out of the house--left to walk dogs when she and her helper arrived, but floors were dry, so I'm thinking it was about one hour that they were here. So count that as two hours of labor for $40.00 USD. I made $20.00/hour in the USA doing home health as an RN. I feel taken advantage of. My mistake was asking "what do I owe you", instead of doing some research and saying "this is what I am comfortable paying." Anyway, I saw Roombas at Costco today, and I may say adios to hired housekeeping.
