Doctors and Medical
I've been reading a little about IMSS and Seguro Popular. I need to read more, but wondering if anyone knows if there are bilingual rheumatologists in GTO and has more information about "pre-existing conditions" and if it's possible to get health insurance to cover those. Gracias.

RE: Doctors and Medical
I have Seguro popular and what I have found is if you are patient and persistent they cover pretty much everything. They don't care about pre existing conditions and if they don't have the facilities to do something they will send you to leon. But someone needs to show you how to get through the system.Sometimes they act apologetic and say you will have to pay and then you laugh when something that would cost thousands of dollars in the U.S. ends up costing 500 pesos

IMSS is pretty strict about certain pre-conditions. Here's a good comparison of IMSS and Seguro Popular: http://www.smahealthinfo.com/

That seems like a pretty good summary of Seguro Popular however I had a situation where I needed a test that wasn't even available at the Hospital of high Specialties in Leon and had to go to arranda de la parra I did get a substantial discount even though it was a private hospital. Also there are funny little things they don't come right out and tell you. Like go over to a little window and pick up a special coupon that ended up saving us about 90%. The doctors order their treatments and tests and then you kind of fight it out with the social workers all in all it's a little strange but has saved us a lot of money.

I had an angiogram done at the hospital of high specialties in Leon today can't speak highly enough of the experience and with Seguro popular it was 742 pesos

Gracias Pianoheat. In the US there are so many fees even with insurance, so SP sounds like a really good deal. I'm greatly relieved and very happy to hear about them not caring about pre-existing conditions. I'm sure it will take time to actually learn how to best use the system and figure out all the cultural quirks, like asking for coupons. Hopefully I won't have to learn in a rush. Thank you for the tips. Much appreciated!

Gracias Roberb7. Really great link!
