Advice for possibly moving with a dog
Hello everyone,

I'm delighted to find this forum, as I've already spent hours trolling it for information! My boyfriend and I are considering relocating to the area for at least a year, probably in oct/nov of this year if possible. We really need a change from the rainy, expensive Pacific Northwest to catch up.

Two big factors in our decision lies with our dog(s), and a vehicle. I really, really don't want to bring my SUV. Downsizing to save and pay off debt is a priority. However, I'm quite concerned about the logistics of bringing at least one of our 2 medium-large dogs down there and living comfortably sans vehicle for that amount of time. From a local perspective, how is the pet situation there? Can I find a reliable and trustworthy pet sitter when we want to travel? Pet friendly rentals with easy outside pee areas? Is there a local vet - and if I need to get the dog there... Taxi?

I'm envisioning flying down, securing a pet friendly rental, then flying the dogs down - however, how will I get them from airport (Guadalajara?) to gto?

I'm certainly not opposed to SMA either, but my boyfriend and I really want to work on fluency, and as I've stated before, downsizing is a huge factor. I wish we could do it without dogs, but it's not an option. :/

On another note completely- how is the internet connectivity? I'll need easy and reliable email and video chat access for my job in the states.

Thank you SO very much for your thoughts on this, and please don't mince words. We'll move abroad somewhere, but finding the right place is really overwhelming.

RE: Advice for possibly moving with a dog
I am sure you will find a dog friendly rental no problem, we did and we have 6! There are very good vets here and if your dogs are too large to transport you can arrange for the vet to come to your home. Pet sitters are not too hard to find, we have a person who does it for us the past 5 years but we do pay. Some people do exchanges and help each other out with sitting.
As for getting your pets to Guanajuto from the airport I think if you browse the forum for drivers I am sure you will find someone to help you. Israel Torres is a very good driver.
We have Internet from Telmex $600 pesos per month package and it works very well, I FaceTime with my grandsons in Canada, we use Apple TV and use all we want on our laptops and iPads, and my husband regularly skypes for work.
Guanajuato is a beautiful place, welcome!

RE: Advice for possibly moving with a dog
Thanks so much Marion, I appreciate your response! As much as I hope to get rid of my car it might not be possible... We'll see what happens in the next six months or so. I'm glad to read that gto has a supportive pet community regardless. Hopefully I can come visit soon!
