How to Type Accented Characters and Inverted Punctuation in Android
There was a good article in last week's NY Times technology section titled "How to Add Currency Symbols to Text in Android". The bottom of the article also explained how to insert accented vowels and inverted question and exclamation marks in Spanish. Basically, you press and hold down the related key (e.g. a for á), and a menu of variants for that letter or symbol will appear, for you to select. It's that simple.

The only caveat is that I believe you need to be running Android 6, for this feature to work. Here is the link to the article.

Works in Android 5 as well, at least in the Cyanogen (OnePlus) version.

It should work on anything that has Swype installed. Also works on my Kindle Fire HD, with the "keyboard" app that was pre-installed. And, if you don't know this already, Swype also allows you to change languages, which is a very useful feature. It corrects your spelling. And, for example, you can type in "manana", and it will change it to "mañana" for you.
